Pt cruiser engine in a neon
i looked for this a little, but i was wondering if it is possible to swap out a neon engine with a pt cruiser non turbo engine(and transmission), its an 02 neon. if it would even be worth it, what else would i need to change out?
yup. a 2.4 will fit in just fine. but if your going to the trouble of puttin in the 2.4, i would honestly spend the bit extra and go with the 2.4 turbo out of an SRT4. not that you couldnt turbo the pt 2.4 (which is where the SRT got its motor from), but the srt is already built to be a turbo engine.
your wiring harnesses would likely need changed out, unless you want to try your hand at doing some hardwiring. youll need the ecu for the 2.4 and also different motor mounts. im honestly not sure about the tranny but i think it should go in w/o much trouble, as the pt cruiser and neon are close cousins and based on the same frame.

I am doing it for my new setup but it is still a long way from being complete but I am swaping in a 03 motor and building it for boost. I got the complete motor for $300+ 1500 pistins ect. and you have motor that is way stronger than the stock srt block the only thing it does not have compared too the srt block is oil squirters.
I'm going for the SRT engine but want to keep it auto and the PT turbo tranny hooks up but is the auto turbo tranny the same as the normal pt auto tranny

As far as I know the N/A and turbo PT Cruisers use the same automatic transmission. As for parts you'll need, the parts list will be the same between the N/A and turbo 2.4, you wold substitute things like the air intake and exhaust manifolds (among other things). You'll need the lower motor mounts, the upper mounts are the same between the 2.0 and 2.4 IIRC...
i didnt really want an automatic transmission, would it just be better to find a srt-4 engine though than replacing it with a pt cruisers, or would the turbo pt cruiser engine be the best to put in?
if you can find an SRT motor w/ trans and LSD, straight forward. honestly dont know too much about the pt cruiser. but the pt cruiser is where the srt got its motor from.
