I thought it would be like 5 grand for an Srt-4 engine with trans.

Buyer beware of engines you buy . I just got found a srt donor ride for my sxt and the engine is shot badly looks like the kid that had it before the accident he had he ran it to death . He was going to sell it for 2500 grand luckly I had my mechnic with me my husband and he checked over the engine and boy it was the worst engine we have ever seen . So I am turned off on doing the srt swap after seeing that engine . Just beware of bad engines and check over them really well before buying them . Maybe I will try the pt cruiser turbo swap sounds pretty rare more than the srt turbo swap.

03rt, the normal pt tranny and turbo tranny are different? Because when I get the cash I want the do the stage 3 SRT-4 but keep it auto and I don't want a busted tranny.
No, they use the same 4-speed automatic transmission (41TE, sound familiar?...it should!!)...as for the Mopar Stage 3, that is designed for the SRT-4 and the T850, so you'll certainly run into problems with the automatic transmission...there are several companies that sell performance 3-speed and 4-speed automatic transmissions for the 2.4 turbo that you could look in to.

With labor I could see a swap costing that much...if it was a complete DIY project the only way I can see it costing that much would be if you purchased a donor car (which many people do). There is a company that is offering complete SRT-4 swaps for $5,500 (includes labor) in Pennsylvania...you would just have to make an appointment, pay for it, drive there, and in two or three days you have a 2.4 turbo under your hood...they even pay for your hotel!

The swap would almost be idetical to if you pulled it out of an SRT-4, the only difference would be you would have to find a SRT-4 intake manifold, SRT-45 motor mounts, and little things lik that. You could keep your automatic transmission, but with all the added friction and heat theres no guarantee how long it will last. The entire swap would probably cost similar to that of the SRT-4, anywhere from $2,000+...and yeah, you really need to be carefull about buying used engines and make sure a certified mechanic goes with you, or at the very least you need to know how to look at things.

Another thing to consider would be purchasing a 2.4 shortblock and building it up from there...

You would have to do MAJOR modifications to the entire car to fit any kind of V8 in a Neon...

It would be awesome, but by the time you were finished there wouldnt be much "Neon" left in your car at all...plus, you would have spent in upwards of $10,000-$15,000 on the whole project at least.

It would be cool but I still want my ride lookin like a neon sxt and really dont even trust used srt4s after lookin at that horrible srt4 engine and what anyone can do to a ride like a srt4 . Makes me want to go out and but a new ride that I can break in myself like I did to my sxt . Maybe get a new wrx or mazda speed3. A ride like the srt4 but not evo or sti price.

The only way I would have a manual car is if I had a second vechile but I'm still in school so that isn't going to happen. So it sounds like that you are saying is that if I want to do the stage 3 auto is to put the PT tranny and bulk that up?
