Default Camshaft/valve spring/ header/ cam gear install pics

Ok, so as the topic says....

my dad and I are both working on this. We are currently working on getting the darn belt cover off and getting the blasted camshaft at top dead center. It is being a pain because of how little room there is and how long the bolts are.

Anyone done this before to give me some help? We are trying to get a metal peice that is connected to the power steering reservior off to get to the cover...[&:][&:][&:]

Yeah I've done this a few times...there shouldnt be any metal piece in the way of the pwer steering resevoir. There should be four bolts, three that you reach through the pulley, and a fourth on the other side that goes in the slot of the bracket for the pump.

it is not in front of the power steering reservior, it is the big peice that the upper motor mount connects to that is infront of the belt cover. We are trying to get the belt cover off so we can see the timing marks to position the camshaft at top dead center.

I had a mechanic of mine do all of that. He took the engine out b/c he said it would be a lot easier.

And because he has the tools necessary to pull the engine. Doesn't really make sense to pull the engine for cam install...but I havne't installed one so I can't say for sure. Just gut feeling seems like it is unnecessary.

all you need to do is pull off the head to do a camshaft install....

um... not the engine mount... it is the metal plate the upper engine mount connects too right before the belt cover...

it is in the first picture!! I mean, all the tubes are running over the belt cover, and there is a peice of metal right beside it. We cant reach the belt cover because of it and there is no room to take out the bolts for the peice!! We are getting a bit frustrated becuase nothing seems to be working to get it out of the way to so we can take off the belt cover.

Welp, I got past my little problem here. Turns out who ever designed the motor intended it to be taken out to be worked on instead of remaining in the dang car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOOOO, The belt cover is almost off and tomorrow I should be installing the new pride and joy's in my life

That metal plate is called the "engine mount palte"...You certainly do not have to take out the engine...the key is being able to move the engine up and down after you take out the motor mount bolts. You place a jack and a block of wood under the oil pan so you dont damage the metal, then remove the plastic plug thats inside the wheel well. After that, insert a Torx T-55 bit into the hole and remove the bolt thats in there. After that, you can freely move the engine up and down...then you remove the power steering pump (four bolts like I said before)...

Next, you need to remove the three long bolts holding the metal plate to the engine. The lowest one can be taken out by lowering the engine as low as you can get it to go. The other two have to be taken out by raising the engine up as high as you can. You'll notice that there is a "wedge" shaped protrusion where that T-55 bolt goes through the mounting plate and into the engine. Lowering the engine is easy enough since that does not get in the way, but to raise it, you have to get around this wedge shaped protrusion. Right about here is when two people will be very helpful...one person to operate the jack, and one to hold the engine by keeping the engine quarely on top of the jack and pushing it towards the drivers side to clear that little protrusion.

already figured it out. Thanks though man. I got it all worked out and tomorrow I should have the header and camshaft pretty much installed!!

Oh, PS My haynes book doesn't give me much info (suprisingly) in this area. So I am a bit sketchy on the parts.[:@]
