header question
ok, i looked at some of the past posts, and couldnt find an answer to my question. I have a 2000 neon, and want to put a header on it. I need to know if there is a header out there that I can just swap my manifold for. I dont want to have to do any customizing or anything too extravagant. I have seen long tube headers, 4-1 headers, 4-2-1 headers, short headers and others. I just want one that I can easily install and not have to modify anything. Thanks, Kevo
Most of the headers out there are bolt on which is what you want and the short tube headers are all 4-1 i think and all u really need. However there is a lil bit more gain with the long tube not anything that is really significant and also take more customization which you dont want to do. Also the other down side with the bolt on headers is they come with a downtube so you have to remove your cat which is not hard just not emissions or noise friendly(very raspy). You could find a r/t header since they are from what I hear the same quality as a borla, and would allow you to keep your cat if I'm not mistaken. Also I dont know whether or not the borla header requires the removal of your cat or not but I wouldn't think so considering the company. As 03neonrt, ummm other than that in my opinion if you want to keep your cat and are thinking about getting a borla save your money towards a turbo kit, because the gains from a header are not bad but nothing worth that kind of money and they are still a pain in the u know what to install but doable. My advice would be to find a good shape r/t header from a salvage yard but I not sure how much luck you will have with that. Hope that helps a little.
Yes, the R/T's "Magnum" exhaust header is the exact same unit as the Borla afterarket header...the only difference is the Borla unit has a really good heat and rust coating that the R/T unit does not have. The only other short tube header I would ever consider is the OBX, but do not use the downpipe...it provides no gains andincreases sound (and not in a good way). All short tube headers require zero modification to your exhaust system...longtubeheaders require that you either remove or relocate the cat farther down the midpipe, which isnt difficult but you would have to take it to an exhaust shop to do it.
well thanks guys, i think i have an idea about what just mounts right up. i think i am gonna go look for an r/t header out of a junker. Thanks again
