R/T (magnum engine) and fuel
I'm driving an awful lot of milesin my '89 Power Ram, so I've decided to buy a Neon to do most of my driving in. I don't like cars very much, but I do like Neons, and I've been looking at '02 and '03 Neon R/Ts. I've read that higher compression calls for the use of 91 octane in these cars. Using the search function, I see that not all of you do, but I'm wondering if anyone can tell me about different grades of fuel in these cars, and how it affects performance and MPG. Any pinging or reduced gas mileage from using lower octane gas?

I drive an 03 R/T and put in 92 premium fuel every time...its not really because of compression (since 00-02 base Neons have 9.8:1 also), its more of the fuel maps and timing/spark adavance that the PCM programming utilizes. When I first bought the car I used 87, and then switched to premium all the time, and I could notice a difference...the engine just felt more "peppy" and responsive with the premium over the regular fuel.
Oh, and if your interested in modding your future R/T, buy a 2002, not a 2003...

The 2002 is more mod friendly than the 2003. With the 2002 you can buy a reprogrammed computer. U have a choice of the AFX (Race or street) PCM.
