Default Tire Sizes

Probably the single most often asked question on any truck forum starts with "What size tire......".

For those of you with larger than stock size tires, please create a post and explain what modifications you had to do to fit them, like purchase wheels with greater backspacing, lift the truck 2", etc., etc...

I have 265/75R16 (32in.) on new aftermarket rims. I run these tires with the4.10 rear end, and its a perfect combo

32.8 needs to be an option. 285/70/17 is 32.8 and a lot of people think that they're 33.

its the largest tire you can fit on a 4x4 1500 without a lift. and that is on the off road rims or stock 16" rims. some people get control arm scrub with aftermarket rims.

and some people get control arm scrub (depending on rims) with 285/75/16.

How 'bout if we just change the first option from 32" or smaller to 32.8" or smaller, would that work?

Now it's been over 10 years since I lifted my '98 RCSB 1500 360CI 4x4, and almost seven since I traded it (on an '02 Cheby, HUGE MISTAKE - Long Story!!)
Was a 3" PA body lift and if memory serves, the tires I put on were a shade under 34" and just under 13" wide. The wheels had a really nice offset, but I still had to trim a little bit, but unless you looked into the tire well, you'd wouldn't be able to tell I took a cut-off wheel under there.

Even though I love my Hemi, 100+ more HP and better fuel economy and all that, I still miss my old 2nd Gen! I'd love to have both right now and stroke that old 360 and turn it into an off-road weekend beast!!!

My truck ame off the used lot with 285s and I've never had an issue. You may claim I'm lucky, but I like to think I'm careful.

I remember on guy in a lifted Dodge asking me on a trail run when I was gonna lift my truck. I retorted that I would when I found things I couldn't drive over, or drive around. Unfortunatly the next run proved the need was more expidiate than my sarcastic retort would have guessed.
What I found over the next 6 years is that the adage theres a right and a wrong way to do things is still too true, and as of today things are right with my truck.

The stock chromies are starting to show thier age, and the time is coming for an upgrade.

But I will air to the side of caution, and only allow a slight width and backspace adjustment. If it works why frell it up?

'01 1500 4x4. I have 285/75/16's on stock chrome steel wheels. I did not have to make any modifications, and I don't get any rubbing.
