What Did You Do To Your 2ND GEN RAM Today?

Truck is misfiring horribly. No warning signs or anything, started it up after work and it had a rough idle. Soon as I got on the road the CEL started flashing, and it struggled and shuttered its way to 30mph. Bought an ignition coil for it tonight, will put it on after work tomorrow. Hopefully its that, and not the distributor, as I have no desire to even attempt to get back there. Plugs and wires arn't very old, but if it's not the coil and ends up being the distributor, I might as well change them all again anyways.

Wet rainy weather?

I would take a look under the cap. See what the rotor looks like. Sometimes they wear out and get a groove in them so they start doing all sorts of weird things.

I'm not sure the coils on these things ever really wear out.....

We had problems with the Dodge dizzy caps getting moisture under them and making it near impossible to start the truck. Simply meant that it was time to replace the dizzy cap. Now that I have the older LA style ignition I never have that problem anymore.

IMO coil problems usually occur when an upstream electrical problem occurs. Some coils are particularly sensitive to under-voltage conditions, the Dodge ones don't seem to be as much.

Thinking about bringing it down to the new place instead of selling it... Hmm...

Picked up some high temp 9004 harnesses and installed some Sylvania xtravision bulbs. Hoepfuly night be able to see tonight.

Oh and new wiper blades. all the store had was trico onyx. Dude said they were good.

Normally I get those Bosch icons. They last forver. Or well several years

Just need to find some relays, and a way to make them some kind of weather resistant and it's rewiring time!

For the headlights? The lazy way is to just get a prefabbed kit. I got the one LMC Truck sells, and though it's cheesy Chinesey just like almost everything else in America these days, it works just fine. I wired the big wires right to the battery with 10AWG wire just because a thing worth doing is worth overdoing.

I read cases where people tore that stuff apart it was less than impressed.


It may suffice just fine. But I'm gonna build my own.

Either way it's only an hour or two working on the truck.

It will probably be a little more expensive than that30 bucks lot but.... At least I did it myself.


I have a lot of success just with these new bulbs and actually aiming them.

I didn't experience that "build quality" feel when I held the thing in my hands and it looks like it belongs in some punk kid's rice burner, but I don't have any reason yet to regret installing the thing. Not that my experience with a single article is at all significant -- I could have got an unusually good one, or someone else might have got an unusually bad one. Ain't no tellin'.
