Sheriff and Oren: I have NEVER used WMP. I've never liked it all. Most recently, I found a new program that I use to make my playlists in. ******* DJ. You can load it down with a ton of songs and set it to auto mix and it does everything for you. Plays with the tempo, the song order, everything. Much nicer than what WMP ever thought about doing. If I'm watching a movie, I use Nero Showtime. In a nut shell, I have never liked WMP.
Now, as for the rest of 7, it is very different than any other M$ OS from the past.
I aquired 7 from a not so nameable source, so I tested my copy on my old desktop first.
Here is its system specs- 2.88 Intel Pentium 4, 1.5 gig ram, 60 gid HD. Under XP Professional, at Idle, I was using about 35% of the overall CPU total, and about 1 gig of the ram.
When I switched to 7 on it, at idle I'm using about 10% of the CPU and about 300Meg of the Ram.
The most amazing change was replacing Vista with it. When I bought my laptop, Vista had already been out long enough for me to do some research on its downfalls. IMO, for the average user, the main pitfall was manufacturers putting in the minimum RAM requirement of 2 gig. So knowing this, I built the laptop for 4 gigs on a 64 bit platform. I never had an issue out of it except for the typical Vista slowness.
Under Vista and at Idle, I was using 60% of the 4 gigs of ram that I have. Under 7 at idle I'm using about 33%.
So far I'm very happy.

forgot to mention the 8 cooling fans. i got a pretty cool one at tigerdirect that is on the end of a flexible arm and i have it pointed directly at my ram.
you can see it toward the top of the pic, right over the ram.
also forgot to mention the 22" acer monitor. i know it doesn't affect the speed of the pc but it sure is awesome compared to the 17" monitor i used to have.

Sheriff, you can never have too many monitors or large enough ones.
I'm trying to save funds to do a custom build, and plan on 2(22") screens.
Purpl, you need to learn computers, bud. It's the new age.

kindschi, those lights don't screw with your eyes when you're watching tv? i would keep the red on all the time, it makes it look like a boom boom room. i've got a red rope light run all the way around the top of the walls in my room and it helps the mood when its time to get down and dirty.

Since we are on the subject of computers, Does any one else notice a problem here at DF with abnormally long *** load times when clicking on a thread to read it or when replying or any other thing you do once you are on the site?
