you know its as hemi if the spark plugs are in the valve covers like that. i would guess it is probably a 426 hemi.

now i am not sure what the lines running to the air intake are for but i think i might have a idea.

Hmmm, nitrous? And nice oil fill cap that guy has got there. So classy.

Yeah, I was thinking the Hemi had the plugs in the VCs.

hemi's do have the spark plug in the valve cover right in the center of each cylinder.

Right, that's what I was thinking. The 400 and 440 weren't much different in their configuration from what I remembered and the Hemi was almost totally different.

hemi's are a lot larger when because of the way they are designed. other big blocks are pretty small in comparison.

The 400 is tiny compared to both the 440 and the 426. Just think how much engine you could fit in an older truck like we've got. I got plenty of room in the 76 with the 400 in it.

even with all the room there is under the hood of a old truck, a hemi would fill up the space nicely and better than a 440.

I know, that's my point.
I want 440 heads.

would putting 440 heads on a 400 do anything? i know you can put 360 heads on a 318 but without modifying them you loose compression which will loose you some power.

The earlier 440 heads are higher comp than the 400 heads as the 400 was basically a low comp smog engine during it's entire life.
