You may wish to consider that all similar hoaxes carry the same recommendation. Be on the lookout for kidney thieves and syringes in theater seats, don't let your kid have temporary tattoos laced with LSD, don't flash your lights to alert other drivers whose headlights are off... and fergawdsake never check snopes.com before spreading another damned urban legend around.

Never even heard of snopes.com

Edited post to account for confirmation that it's just another "urban legend"

Now ya have!

One of the ex-wives used to send me hoaxes and urban legends all the time. Me and a couple dozen others who were in her "people to whom I must prove I'm gullible" list. Appealing to her personally to stop had no effect, so I finally just replied to all with links to snopes.com, urbanlegends.about.com, and a few other similar sites -- suggesting that rather than scare the gullible, annoy the rational, and embarrass herself all for no good reason, she might just look in those places before forwarding along the BS.

I never saw another hoax or urban legend from her again. And for the last five years or so I've not heard a word from her... ah, blessed relief! Being an intolerable jerk has its rewards.

Sometime between 8pm on 2/4 and 4pm on 2/5, my Mazda was struck by a stray bullet while parked in front of my ex's house. I had it all cleaned up, ready for selling and parked in front of her house as she lives on a heavily traveled intersection. She called the police and filed a report. The investigating officer was able to extricate the slug, which turned out to be a .45 caliber and had lodged to a fastener inside of the door. Based on the trajectory, it was on a downward slope, and had it not been for my car would have struck the lower part of the front of her house. The insurance estimate is roughly $1,500 and could be more. The police were checking to see if there were any reports of gunshots in the area.
