Thats enough miles to keep me away.. I bought my car for 2500 and it only had 96k... Gets good gas mileageto.. of course its a grandpa car but I could care less.. it was cheap and it will last... Look around a little more.

I dont mind 150k-180k on a big ol American pushrod v8, but that many miles on a 4 banger with overhead cams and a timing belt makes me a little nervous....especially if it's an interference engine.

Been looking at Honda's and Toyota's primarily. Found several nice rides, one I like the most is an '02 Honda Civic, one owner bought new, 4 door, sunroof, cd player, really nice. $3k. It has some miles on it though, 246,000.

Mileage sorta has me worried but if it's been took care of it shouldn't be a problem.

What ya'll think?
Too many for any gas engine as far as I am concerned. Especially for that kind of money. If it was a grand, I would consider it.

my first car was a 95 civic when i retired it it it had 358k on the clock. motor ran like it was new. mind you i live in the rust belt..... the body was done for and i bought a 99 prelude...

id buy another one any day! theyre great cars and run forever... civics are wicked cheap to fix too!

hondas are another vehicle that hold yheir value well. my prelude with a salvage title was still worth 8k granted i sold it for 4k cause it needed a new intake manifold and i was only selling.it for 5500.

good luck!

The high mileage does have me worried. There are other deals out there, just don't want something too ancient either.

'97 Civic with 160,000 for $2300.

Ah the joys of window shopping.

But it does seem that Civic's are EPA Estimated for higher fuel economy then comparable Toyota's...

shoot if you can get that 97 down to 16 or 1700, i'd take that any day. My buddy had a 94 accord that he freaking beat to hell and back and that son of a gun still ran like a little champ. it even survived a tree falling on the drivers side and denting the roof and top of the doors in (he waterproofed it with a masterful combination of packing and duct tape...)...hondas are pretty hardy little cars, but 250k is too high, even for them

My Tacoma has 280,000 on it and I am not afraid to drive it across country at any given moment. But my dad bought it new and took excellent care of iy. Log book in glove box with every oil/filter change, etc. But buying an unknown vehicle which may or may not have been taken care of is risky business.

Hold off as mentioned. There are deals out there. "Patience, Grasshopper..." It will benefit you and your wallet.
