I rarely come in OT, but haha I came in and you guys are all talking bout tractors and such. I just ordered a new spindle for my craftsman deck yesterday so that'll be here tomorrow. That craftsman has been sitting for like 6 years now since we got the 60" exmark. My father was like if you want the old craftsman, you can have it. Sweet! so yeah all it needs is a spindle and some paint. She'll be good as new. I might have to do some racing stripes too now lol jk

by spindle for the deck, do you mean the cast aluminum deal that the blades/belt are attached to? that part broke on my dads new one and he used both of them off his old mtd because they were a perfect match.

and why are you j/k about the stripes? i swear they add 10hp at the wheels, just like the nos and apc stickers do on ricers.

Yeah, thats the part. The bearings went bad in mine and the blade wobbles real bad so I found a whole assembly on amazon for $23. Tractor Supply wanted $70, but thats more than I want to put into the mower.

Lol, and I was jk'n about the stripes because I don't know how good it would look on a green tractor. A quick search of google and I found a pic of what mine looks like.

Im already going to have the black paint out anyway... but if I were to do some stripes, thats about the only color I could picture.

green with white stripes would look good.
my dad lucked out when he broke his because the parts off an old mower fit perfect.
if you break anything else you ought to call some small engine shops and see if they have any junkers that you could get some parts off. all 3 of them in my town have a bunch of old mowers that are just there for parts.

Just a good old LT1000. I used to have one of those. The Kohler in it threw a rod or something and we had it re-built because we didnt use the right oil. Make sure if it has the Kohler Command (Or Courage) that you only use 10W-30 oil in it. The Commands have hydralic lifters that require a multi-grade oil. If it has a B&S or Techumseh just use Shell Rotella T 30wt. Probably a common mistake and people are getting very noisy lifters.

I need to get a new spindle for my aunt's MTD Huskee. I was mowing with it and must have bent the spindle on a rock or something. Now everytime that I shut the blades off there is a horrible grinding noise because the bent pulley is moving the blade stop around and hitting the deck.

Thanks PC!!! I found a new Oregon spindle and 3 blades on Amazon for $67. Thats what it would cost for just a new pulley from MTD!

I doubt that your old MTD has the Command or a Kohler. Prolly just a I/C Briggs. Lets see if I'm right!
