Miles per gallon- What are you getting?
98, 5.9, 4x4....I'm getting 0....but before my transmission decided to kill itself I was ranging about 9 miles a gallon. That should have been my first clue that the transmission was getting ready to go. But I never remember getting more than 15 on the HWY with it when it was running in it's prime.
Had a '99 Ram 4 Door Short bed with the 5.2.
I ran all symthetic fluids
Used Lukes upper engine treatment
Cold Air intake
Nurf Bars, stereo system (sub box & amp) <<-- added weight
Stock exhaust
Tonneau cover
I got 13.5 until i started using Lukes, One bottle and it upped to 14.5.
About 50/50 highway and city.
I ran to Cleaveland once with a 4 cylinder motor in the bed (under the tonneau) and got 19 even.

10-11 city; 12-14 hwy. 01 5.2L auto, short bed extended cab; all stock. Dodge's gas mileage sucks and always has. Chevy gets much better (I own two and get 15/19), but my 2005 F250 4x4 Ford Powerstroke Diesel crewcab gets the best at 20mpg on the highway. And it's a great truck and heavy and will pull dang near anything. So if you want fuel mileage in a truck then get a diesel (Dodge Cummins also gets good highway mileage), or second best choice is to get a Chevy.
Talk is that Nissan, and maybe Toyota, will be offering a diesel in 2007.

2004 RAM 2500 Quad Cab, Hemi:
8-9 mph pulling a 28 ft loaded RV trailer with 6 people in the cab at 70 mph
12-13 in pure stop & go traffic
18 max on highway at 70 mph
Average the last 8 months: 14.7 mph.

Overall I get 10-12 mpg. I have a Flowmaster 40 series muffler that goes out to dual exhaust, Helix Power Tower TB riser plate, MAC cold air intake, and MT 285/75R16 tires. Before the tire upgrade I was about 13 mpg. The best I ever got was about 16 on the interstate. I did get 14.3 mpg a couple of months ago, but it was all hwy. Not good at all.
98 Ram 1500 3.9L NV3500 (manual 5) only mod is flowmasters and running 255/65/16 Falkens. I get 17mpg on 89 and 19mpg on 91 or 93. That is mixed highway and in town but by no means do i stay out of it. If i stay out of the throttle i would never get up to speed, lol. Poor little 6 it doesn't know what power is.
I get about 20 mpg according to spedo. But I am running 15 inch wheels instead of 16 inch which puts the spedo off a little. I have 3.9 V-6 long bed 2wd with 3.20 gears and it is all highway miles driven 70 mph or less. I believe the 5 speed manual helps.
