My 01 1500 now has 69,000 mile, and the dash is solid.
No cracks or anything.
I only dust and Armor All it.
Coincidentally my boss and one of my coworkers also drive 01 Rams, we sometime talk about our trucks and problems we had, but neither ever mentioned dashboard cracks either.
All three trucks are Michigan trucks, so I wonder if it could have something to do with the weather.
We dont get a lot of hot, dry weather in Michigan, wich would seem to hurt the dashboard the most.

2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Original owner. Multiple cracks. I armor all the dashboard regularly. I deployed to Iraq 2005 and 2006 and left the truck with my wife for the year. Get in the truck after I get back and the dash is perfect. Drive 10 miles down the road and the sucker starts splitting like a drunk cheerleader after the homecoming game.

I haven't called the 800 number a second time yet...

The 1st time I called (after about 45 minutes on the phone - 2 people - one to see if they think it is a valid claim and the other two approve or deny your claim), they informed me,the original owner had requested assistance about a year and a half ago and was denied assistance. The local District Manager for the DFW (Dallas-Fort Worth) area had denied the claim in March 2006. Therefore, noone can overturn the local District Managers desicion and that he (the rep) concurred with that desicion. I told him, that the desicion was made prior to Dodge accepting to assist customers (forgot to remind him, I was making a new claim and I was not the one denied in March 06 by the Local DM) and since the news broadcast in Florida. Then he went into this long spill of "as you mentioned earlier, your truck is a 1999 with 91,600 miles, right?". Then reminded me that the truck was out of warranty in 2002 and at 36k miles. Of course I popped off and said, then why are you providing assistance to 1995 trucks with cracked dashes? His response "each claim is on a case by case basis".
Now getting my dash replaced is a matter of principal. Before I called the 800 number, I was alreadythinking of selling it and buying my In-Laws truck (04 Quad Cab 4X4 - 73K miles). One of thelocal dealership (not the one we bought the 06 at), that I bought all of the accessories for the 06 told me he would sell me the upper dash (dark slate) for $350 (the light gray one is arround $200) and the black bezel (around the guages and radio) for $135.

ORIGINAL: 278horn

I am the original owner of my 2001. The dealer fixed mine for $200.00. It was not cracked that bad. A co-worker is having his replaced for $50.00. His was destroyed. I believe if someone is having this problem, they should contact Dodge customer service and register a complaint. They had me take the truck to the dealer. The dealer verified to Dodge that the dash was cracked and Dodge quoted me $200.00 to replace it. I took them up on it.
The number I called is: 1-800-992-1997. Have your VIN ready.
i wanted to make sure this came to the top. i have a 2001 sport 4x4 black that's been garaged and babied. 6 days ago i noticed a crack in the dash on the passenger side coming back from one of the vents. today there are (3) cracks i now see. i did some research and found this forum and called the number above, and so far they've been very helpful.

they gave me a service number and i took my truck to the huffines dealer in lewisville, tx and was going to have them look at it but they wanted to keep it for awhile. i asked the guy "do you just wanna make sure it's cracked?" and he said "i'm sure it is, those are bad at that".

anyway - i'll take it back in monday and let them review it and update a recall power dist. cable or something like that and see what they'll do. if i can get a deal like this i'll be happy and let 'em do it and get my truck back into good shape.

i encourage anyone having dash problems to call the above number and keep the pressure on for dodge to do something overall. i'll report back when i have a final offer from dodge and let everyone know.

I bought my 2001 SLT used with no cracksat 50K miles. By 60K miles the dashboard started to crack and now at 80K it looks like the salt flats at Bonneville. I took it to the dealer who quoted me $226 for the part and $500 for labor at which time I walked out. I called the 1-800 # and spoke to Rachel who said I needed to take it to the dealer and he needed to open a case in the computer. I said I had already done that once and she said the dealer is the only way they have of verifying that what I am saying is true. I said OK and took it back. The dealer acted like I was wasting their time, but after I said I had a ref# from customer service he changed his tune and took a look. He noted the cracks but acted like it was no big deal and said he would put in the computer that I had a complaint. The next day I called cust service (800#) to see what the status was and they said they were still waiting to hear from the dealer. I told them I didn't think Dodge or the dealerwas going to do anything and asked to speak to a supervisor. They refused and insisted I had to work thru the person I opened the case with. I thenhung up. It seems obvious Dodge is only doing lip service to this whole problem of cracked dashboards and the sooner it gets the government's attention the better. If anyone has had success getting a dealer to step up please let me know.

My husband has a 1998 where a 6x6 chunk came out of the dash. It has since slid back behind the dash. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can get it out of there so that I can use Tropical Imports idea for fixing it?

I just found this forum today, and it isgood to know that I am not the only one with this problem. I called the 800#, and they were no help, even afterI told them about all the infomationI had found on the issue. When I made reference to the news spot in Florida.I was then told yes it seem to be a problem down there. Will it is a problem in Va as will. Is there anyone else in Va. having this issue.I am thinking about contact the media here about this issue. If it worked in Florida why no every were else.

Well I am happy to report that Dodge did fix mine and I live in Atlanta. I am the 2nd owner of my Dodge 2001 Quad Cab Ram. Some teenager rammed the guy behind me who ramed me from behind, (no pun intended). Minimal damage to the tailgate and bumper but my dash shattered into 20 different pieces and knicked my finger. the teenager's insurance company, Progressive Insurance said it could not have happened and refused to pay. I asked them are they calling me a liar? Basically yes they did. It was in the Police report, one of their claim techs even said he had seen that before (but then all of sudden after he said that, the main manager who walked up said he was not an employee of Progressive and his word meant NOTHING). I complained to several of their people and got NOWHERE.

Then a stroke of luck. That very day, I happened to be on my way to meet our HP rep, who was based but where else? In ORLANDO! He told me ALL about the new stories on this dash stuff. I called the news guy and got the 800# for Dodge. I called it, gave my VIN # talked to about 4 different people before I got ahold of a girl whotold me to take it to the Dodge dealer of which I did along with a case number she gave me. They called me back later in the day and said Dodge would fix it all I had to do was pay $100 deductable!!!!

FIXED, looks AWESOME. Call the Dodge number!!!! I am still trying to get Progressive to fix the other damage.

OK, Evidently I was wrong about the Dodge 1800# They finally called back to say they would reimburse the $700 dealer charges except for a $200 co-pay. I have to contact the dealer and set it up. I guess its not too bad a deal...
