2001 Dashboard Cracks
I found that replacement dash's from Carolina Auto Supply for $85.98 plus shipping. I am going to order it through work since you have to have a business license to order from them, and hopefully in a few weeks I will have a dash that is in one piece.
Add 1 more to the list, after i changed my heater core and reefing on the dash i have even bigger cracks in the dash, it would be nice if dodge would even send us a dash mat to cover the cracks up, i would be happy with that
i have a 99 and they have the same dash as an 99-01 and mine cracked 2 huge cracks from two different defrost vents, io blame it personally on armourall[:@][:@][:@][:@][:@]
Heh I have a 96ram and the only thing left on its dash is the reverse screws holding on to the plastic near the vents. I know its not a 01 but I figure I d throw in some comment. I have yet to get a quote on a new dash and I met a guy who has installed them in a way where you don't have to take everything apart for around 150 bucks.
Alas, we are now reaping the terrible seeds sown by Chrysler Corp....from the 1980s on. And, unfortunately, Daimler only wanted to make money for...Daimler.
After seeing this I'm going to watch my dash very closely now. FWIW, the dash on the 2003 Dodge Intrepid SE my wife and I USED to own developed cracks as well. I don't recall using Armor All on it, but I think I may have.
I've heard of Armor All doing terrible things to ANY dash, that may be one source of many for these dashes.

Any correlation between where the truck was built and the cracks? Or the Color? I've owned 2 99 Rams 3500 QC DuallieCummins Auto, and a 2500 Sport QC SB 4x4 V-10 auto, and have driven a 3rd as a company truck since new, (Its still a spare vehicle around the shop) My first I sold to the shop I work for , so I still see it every day. All 3 came from St Louis, and all 3 have NO cracks. My Current truck has been pampered all its life, the one I sold was well maintained until I sold it, and my old work truck, while kept clean, was never "MY" truck, so I did not baby it in any way. All 3 are the Dark Agate color. Just throwing some thoughts out there. I went over all 3 trucks with a fine tooth comb today, and all 3 are perfect.. Now the 97 Ford at the shop, the whole dash literally fell on the passengers lap about 2 years ago. There was no metal support on the passenger side, just plastic that fatigued and cracked.
I have owned 2 Dodge 1500s& have had great luck with both - excluding the dashes.I boughtthe 1995 (w/ grey dash)used in 1997.Thedash was replaced twice between 2004& 2005 - lots of moola ($).I didn't think it wasa big deal since I live in Austin, TXwhere the sun is evil& the truck had few issues since I purchased it. But, one day it started& kept cracking (lots of pieces).I purchasedthe 2002 (w/ charcoal dash) new.I noticed cracks in the dash by the defrost ventslast year -it was replaced in April, 2007.The main part of my dashcracked in the middle shortly after&quoted $444 for the part&over $700 labor.I chose not to spend the money. I took the truck in todayto replace vents& repair fan mode door issues. They said the dash would need to be removed for the repair...BUT removal would destroy it& it would be $950 labor.I have been on the phone with Chrysler today after reading up on all the issues -they agreed to pay for the part but not the labor AND they wouldn't re-imburse me for the front dash replaced in April.I was specifically told that this is not part of a recall.I turned to the dealership to work out a deal & they said Chrysler would have to approve the labor cost reduction.Chrysler said the dealership would have to approve since I now had other work that needed to be done. Not a good answer for this fiesty Italian/Irish Texas girl!!So, I will continue spending time on the phone trying to reach a win-win solution.BTW, the dash is on NATIONAL BACKLOG - Hmmm, not a recall, huh?
