2001 Dashboard Cracks
I have an 01 ram 1500 and I DONT HAVE a dash board any more it just crumbled to nothing. Now mined you had a cover on it to protect it from the sun.I just so happend to see a crack by the airbag so I loked under the cover and ...[b]NOTHING IT ALL DISINIGRATED ! $600 JUST FOR LABOR AT THE DEALER....[b] These are the true criminals . And to top it off I also have my eng light on all the time . what the heck is wrong with all these trucks?
I have had 2 Dodge Dakota's without any problems to really speak of but if I had a design or quality issue I would contact Dodge Corp. directly the dealers could care less all they want is your money and that goes for ALL auto dealerships or shold I say Stealerships
Same problem - 2001 - 1500 Quad Cab 4x4 Sport with Off-Road and 5.9L. Contacted Dodge last year same BS reponse. Posted a complaint on the NHTSA and contacted the attorney general. Nothing yet. The dash has 2 to 3 cracks front to back and the bezel is also cracked. Now chunks are starting to fall out. Pretty sad to see a 5 year old truck that has been kept clean and well maintained fall apart. Dodge should be ashamed of the quality of their interior. Ordered color swaths from Coverlay as I'm tired of waiting but if anyone has any other ideas for getting Dodge to listen to a complaint, I'm all ears.
Our 2001 Dodge pickup also started with cracks in the dashboard and now most of it has fallen in and is open. Looks really great!!!!
We contacted the dealership in San Angelo TX where we bought the pickup new and of course they aren't responsible!
Any thoughts on what can be done to make the dealerhsip responsible? Thanks.

I can only echo everyone's trouble. I recently bought a use 2000 dodge ram from an individual. Truck is in teriffic shape, well kept, 120k miles but looks and runs like 40k. Anyway, about a week ago I'm hearing some unusual creaking noise in the dash then out of nowhere a crack, no two cracks on the top of the dash, passenger side, near the defroster duct outlet.
Based on the comments i this column I guess there's no need to contact a dealership or Dodge.
Looking for a resonable repair suggestion. Anyone actually using one of those dash overlays that a couple of you were talking about? If so, how do you like it?
Thanks,
KW
I have a 2000 Dodge 1500 and I literally woke up one morning, looked in the window and the dash was cracked. I could not believe that I truck I treat better than most children are treated had that happen. The issue has become worse, the instrument panel is now showing signs of cracking and after reading this forum I am not sure there is any way to stop it. I would appreciate anyone forwarding me information on who to contact to complain about this. My Dodge has never given me any trouble up until this dash incident. I realize that dealerships only care about money, but it seems with the amount of people having this problem a recall is in order.
Wow....I have a 1998 Ram, it has been thru everything from 100+ degree temps to -40 below zerp, not to mention numerious applications of various cleaning products. Sits out side all of the time. Dash still looks like new. Its interesting that you all with 00 and 01's have problems, as from 98-01 the dash's were esentially the same in the ram, except for a few minor changes. Maybe they changed their supplier or were prep'd to below durability standards, i think somebody mentions they imported them from oversea's. Sorry to hear so many people are haveing problems with their dealerships and their trucks, especially over something as irritating and an eyesore as a cracked dash.......
