2001 Dashboard Cracks
Well, you can add another withEXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!! 2001 Dodge Ram where the dashboard started cracking about a year after buying the truck brand spanking new. My stepfather has been Mopar his whole life, owning/racing hemi back in the sixties. We were raised thatnothing else came close. My mother bought a Dodge Omni brand new back in the 80s. Within 2 years there was hardly any paint left on the hood. After many hours of trying to get help, they basically told her she could always try to sue.
Plain and simple, they figure they are better off finacially not worrying about customer satisfaction.
I intend to also report it as a possible safety concern, and will also do everything I can to find reporters etc. who will listen. I also plan on printing copies of this forum, keeping them in my glove box (while I still have one)and putting them on windshields of every Dodge Ram I see.
I hope others do the same. Maybe when they see their profits fall enough, they will begin to care about the suckers like us that bought their OBVIOUSLY defective product.

Probably won't do much good since they aren't even registered with BBB under the lemon law, but everyone with the problem should at least fill out the complaint at: http://lemonlaw.bbb.org/

Like the rest of you I have 01 Ram with a dash that looks like someone took a hammer to it. It started as a crack and peice falling out around 40k miles. Same story, differant person, it was out of warranty when I called. I even had the extended warrenty but was told it didn't cover that part. It would be nice to have a news report done on the problem.
Same old story here too. My 2001 Dodge 2500 4x4 has dash problems that the dealer will not deal with. There are 3 other guys here at work that also drive Dodge's with the same cracked dash issues and we have all come to the conclusion that we willNOT buy Dodge again sense they don't want to stand behind their product.
I moved the thread to the Ram section. I would have moved it to a certain generation section, however, it seemed that the problem was in both the gen2 and gen3 models, from the information I gathered in the previous posts within this thread. If the Ram moderator would please make the decision on where it goes from here, I would appreciate it.
Thanks!
Thanks!
My 97 Ram has a large split right down the middle and smaller cracks near the defrost vents. Had it for almost 2 years before it did this then all of a sudden they were there.[:@]
My '01 is cracked as well. I bought it that way and wondered if it had been wrecked or something, but it seems to be a common problem. Mine is exactly where you described, on the passenger side from the windshield down to the air bag. My dealer must be trying to throw a helluva screwin' to me cause he told me the the dash pad would run $1200 dollars!! Yeah, and no vaseline provided either!
I have seen some vinyl color matched covers on E-bay. You need to glue them over your old one with some silicone adhesive. If I remember right, they were only about $200 or so.

Well..................... I heard from the local dodge dealership today. Their corporate headquarters offer was they would pay for half of the part, which is the dash, and I would have to pay the other half of the dash plus labor. The only option I see is to call NTSB and report the dash condition as a safety hazzard. I found the number in the back of my owners manual, I only hope that enough of us voice our opinions and dodge is forced to recall the trucks and replace the dash. I will be making my call Monday morning, wont you join me?
