Well, not sure I would define ANY gear swap as "simple"........ sure, they will bolt right in, BUT, they need to be set up properly, or, they will make really rude noises, and leave you on the side of the road/trail...... If this isn't something you have done before, or, have someone that HAS done it before to help, don't do it. Pay someone else to do so. (yeah, not exactly cheap.)

If you have a 4x4, you need to have the same ratio, front and back, else, engaging 4wd will give you a rather nice show of internal parts, that aren't supposed to be on the ground like that.........

Welcome to DF.

Most of the 4by's came with the 3.55's as well, and most of those are open differentials......... verify what gears are in there before you buy. 3.92's were an option, and the 2000 and 01 offroad edition trucks came with 4.10s, and a posi from the factory.

If you can find an axle that has what you want in it, swapping out the whole thing is quick and easy. (as compared to doing gears. )

you can swap ring gears no problem, its the pinion that makes it difficult. You must set the "lash" so there wont be to much 'Preload".....you need a guage and have it read about 10,000/ of an inch. just enough where gear oil can get through the ring and pinion. and lube it. To much and you'll have a real bad humming going down the road. to little, and you'll chew up parts.

Have someone else do the lash if you change gears. If your running a 2wd, and have stock tires, just put a locker or LSD in. there really wouldnt be a point to upgrade the gears.
