Build 'yer own.

 

There were two plates there, one had the tube for the step mounted to it.... and there was a flat plate on the backside of the frame. I think you would have to be fairly hefty to get that to flex at all...... applying pressure on the bolts in that direction would do nothing to them. Catching it on some immobile object though, would put a side load on them, and might shear them off.... or, you might just stop dead.

Personally, I would think just bolting it to the frame, with another plate on the backside, NOT overlapping the rails, would be stronger... but, question becomes, does it NEED to be that strong? And, do you really WANT it that strong....

 

Sounds like he just wants the small single step style. Yes it probably would be stought enough for that, but with better bolts. Plenty of ideas here, now to find them or fabricate them.

 

This is something I am going to have to look at eventually..... My family has a bit of trouble getting into the truck... I am 6'2", so, no issues for me..... Friend of mine has a pipe bender, and electric welder though..... so, could probably fab something up relatively easily, when the opportunity presents itself.

 

I think the reason ranch hand did it with the overlap is because they only make them for 3 gen and they have a box frame

 

I am talking to the guy in the link about getting a price for making them for me. I would make them my self just don't have the time.

 

That's prolly your best bet. A custom fab shop is going to be the only ones that can understand what you want and still be able to make it.

Just wanted to show you guys what I found. I called ranch hand and was told they never made a set of steps for a 2nd gen. I found a guy on a forum and he had a set for 94-2001. What do you think

 

 

Looks good to me. Serves the purpose, and doesn't interfere with anything.
