Help my set up my CB
ok well lets start with the radio i got a uniden 78 thats been peaked and tune. then for antenna mount i got a fender mount with 18 ft of coax. now here is where i get lost, i got a stainless steel antenna couldnt get it tuned, also had a decent fiberglass one and had the same problem. the fiberglass one the best i could get was just under 3. i had a magnetic wilson 1000 on the roof but it messed up my clear coat and hit everytree in town, but i was getting a 1.1 swr on 1 and a 1.2 on 40. but i was thinking about trying a firestick something about 3ft. now with the firestick should i run a spring with the hood/fender mount? here is the antennas i was thinking about.

i have a 2' tunable firestick FS2 on a 3" spring, mounted on the front edge of the bed. its a good antenna and works better than i expected with it being so short.
i think either of those links will be good. i like the idea of a flexible antenna. that might be new. my FS2 is a stiff rod, so i put a 3" spring under it.

im thinking about a 2 foot with a spring because its nice to be able to go into garage and still get into car wash bays. my 3ft was exactly at 7foot in the air.
you can see it on the truck

I tried a few different antennas and finally tried the "lil wil" wison magnetic mount, which was superior to the others I used. My roof paint is already shot though, so I really don't worry about clear coat problems. Maybe you should try a couple layers of good wax on the roof with solve your problems?
If height doesn't matter you can't beat a stainless 102"? whip. Mine worked great. Otherwise I stick with K40. I have a 3' fiberglass with an adjustable tip that works well and a magnetic mount that also works well. I have tried other brands and do far have had no success.
the smaller the better honestly. havent really heard much reveiws on fiberglass antennas. but K40 antennas was something i wanted to look into, just have heard more about the firestiks.

The K40 is far superior to the Firestik. Guaranteed. I've had a few Firestiks and found the K40 superior to them, and then when I had my radio shop I installed dozens of each and often found myself replacing Firestiks with K40's after a few months. The K40 "Trucker" is my favorite mobile antenna, and outperformed the Wilson 2000 that I had before it in the same location with the same radio. FWIW, I consider receive performance to matter most because transmit performance isn't much affected by swapping antennas in the same location unless you're replacing a coat hanger with something better.
here's my 2 foot fiberglass.
i chose it because it fits in the garage without hitting anything.
i'm sure there are other setups with better reception, but this is good enough for me.
$19 and free shipping. spring sold separately.
