Default resolved: making the search funtion more user friendly

I'm kinda new here, so making such a suggestion is a little out of order- but I'd like to present it all the same..

Can we request an original poster to a thread, or even a moderator, to edit the title of a technical post to something like:

solved: (part, symptom, cause ect..here)

the search engine isn't to good on the board, and this would certainly help new guys (and me) find solutions without clogging things up with the same questions over and over..

thanks?..

Not a bad idea, but I dont think people would like the title of their threads changed. Maybe they could add some keywords that would be under the title so it would pop up in a search. Either way its a lot of work to do all that, but would probably help.

I agree- that's the reason I would request the original poster to change it.. after they have found resolve... I added the request to my signature line.. I hope it takes off..

well, I love it when I find a glitch in the software!!!

If you return to the original post and do an advanced search, the title doesn't change in the user index- but it changes on the top of the post.. notice the name of this thread in the thread index page, then look at it once you open it..

this solved the 'changing the title of the users post' issue all together.. but I bet the search will still work...

the search terms would be, for instance, "resolved: transmission slips, trouble code 1751".. a new user could search using those terms and go directly to threads that would help them.

Some moderators used to do similar things to thread titles, or even change titles like "A few questions..." to more appropriately titled "2000 Dodge Ram transmission questions...". Unfortunately, we received so many complaints about moderators changing thread titles, that thats pretty much been declared an unspoken rule: most of the time moderators should not touch thread titles.
