ya it is a bit reckless but have you watched myth busters? have you seen how much difficulties they have trying to get a un-manned vehicle to go straight on level pavement? how many times has the vehicle had a mind of its own and break free and go crashing into the fence or other things and kept going? in that video if the truck was un-manned it could go diving into a tree or the people that are standing there watching by the tree.

 

It was manned, and managed to find the tree anyway.
