Bought a car!

Nice VW! I looked at a hatchback too but the wife was having none of it so we never tried it out... I kinda liked it myself though. I can't wait for a day when I have to work and she doesn't, I wanna try it out on the highway! I don't think we'll have to worry about snow now, it's raining atm and the stuff is disappearing fast finally!

I bought the hatchback so I can load bulky stuff in the car. Can't do that with a sedan, and with a truck you're either exposing the cargo to the elements or sucking a ton of fuel doing so.
More and more people are finding hatchbacks and sportwagens to be a great compromise.
Report back when you've opened her up on the highway.. I guarantee you're going to be very pleased.

When my step dad passed away in '08 I could have had his car for nuthin'. An '01 Hyundai Accent, 2 door, 5 speed manual that only had 31k miles on it. Mint condition, not a scratch or dent on it.
I drove it a bit while I tried to sell it for my mom. Got a solid 40 mpg on the interstate with it and 33 mpg over-all use. Book value on the thing was only about $2900 (it was only about $7900 new off the lot when he bought it), and I ended up selling it to an "at home" nurse who was going broke driving her 8 cyl. Buick from patient to patient to the tune of about 100 miles a day. Basically gave it to her for $2500.
Wish I'da kept the damn thing now!!!

Nah. Sounds like you did a good deed, but you learned about "funny little cars", didn't you?

My wife and I were just looking at Mazda's a couple weeks ago. She finished her nursing program and needed a commuter car. The minivan was going to kill us on fuel commuting 5day/wk. In the end, we settled on an '08 Honda Civic. She's been getting 35mpg in mixed driving, and cracked 40+ on a road trip this last weekend. Now she's trying to convince me to sell the truck and keep the van for me to drive everyday.
Obviously, I said "Hells-No!" With my scangauge and canopy, I'm getting close enough to the van's mpg rating, so it stays. Besides, when roads are dry, I usually take the 66 Mustang Conv, or my bike. The old Ford still knocks down close to 25mpg, and the bike is 50-60ish.
