well the problem getting them is in area specific. but when everybody skips over them on a topic it has got to be said. TRUE. cannot always find them easile but once you know where to get them they are worth it. in minnesota i used to get then a certified power i believe it was in burnsville, mn. they have done two drive shafts for me that came out solid. i can try and get over there and find out who supplying them or where they get them from if like napa or carquest.

ugh......well i just brought my truck to my buddy who owns his own shop....and results arent good.

1. Harmonic Balancer is wobbling bad, and leaking oil in that area

2. Timing Cover is leaking

3. Gear box is leaking where the steering shaft enters

4. Intake manifold is leaking coolant at back corner on drivers side

5. U-joints worn but still ok....just cant do any 4x4

6. Cat is plugged up, put a vacuum guage to it and he said that the manifold is holding to much pressure which means the cat is probably clogged up....

7. Couple holes in the front of the frame...he said he can weld up new steel.

8. Need the Rock solid ram steering fix, lots of play at the shaft

I just wanted to know how my u-joitns were and if it was safe to drive...and this is what i got....but its good having friends in high places...

I have a 2WD truck. When I bought U-Joints I paid more for the ones that said "MADE IN USA" versus the .0003" too large junk that had "MADE IN CHINA" on them.

Buy quality and stop worrying about price.

im not worried about price...i just want to do everything at once, and have quality parts and not junk....i want to do some research before i buy instead of jumping out and buying the first choice that i see, which is what i did, and look what it did for me...caused me a headache

As a former zoner, I can certainly say...do NOT buy anything you want or expect to last from Autozone...especially an Autozone branded part!
I've warrantied those parts by the truckload!
For that matter any U-joint that doesn't say "dana spicer" or similar on it is questionable except as an emergency repair.
Quality parts don't have to have a "lifetime warranty" or any warranty at all.

I bought my U-joints from Four wheelers supply in Phx when I lived there, and they also do Internet and ship nationwide.
But the 2 major 4x4 shops here in T-town carry spicer products. So if I have to buy local, I can.
Somebody on the eastern seaboard has gotta carry 'em!

There's a reason all those high zoot racers who beat on their vehicles drag around a trailer full of parts...

Stock U-joint is a Spicer 5-297x. If replacing, you can upgrade to a 5-760x which is said to be about 20% stronger, and will fit right in without any modifications. This is the biggest you can go stock. I pulled that from pavement sucks. I run the precision joints as well and they've held up so far. I know complete offroad sells the danas and they do free shipping I believe.
