I dont mean golf.
I've been fighting a 0301 code for a while now and finally got around to running a compression test. Number 1 cyl read ZERO, #2 was 125 and #8 was 100. All the others read about 170.
I pulled the valve cover and stated the engine to see if the valve train looked weird or showed signs of comression leaking on #1 and all appeared good.
My problems stated back in DEC when driving, the truch stated missing big time. When I pulled the plugs 3 of them had pucks melted or blown off, so I imagine #1 had melted through the piston.
I had planned on replacing the truck this year anyway so I am not going to mess with it any longer. It runs good enough to get it somwhere for a trader in, but probably just get a scrape price..
The truck has served me well over the years, with only minor problems but I think I'll be looking for an F150 this go around.

when you go to trade it in, the dealer will be looking to rape you on trade in price anyway, so just play it cool and tell em it runs fine, blah, blah.

i traded in a car one time that had a blown headgasket. i wouldn't have sold it to anyone like that, but i traded it off on a dealer in a heartbeat. they're going to run it though the auction no matter whether they pay you a little or a lot, so someone else down the road will have to deal with it no matter what. the dealer spent a grand total of 10 seconds looking at my trade and offered 2300 without even cranking it up. i tried to hide my excitement.... and said, well - ok.

was yours pinging/spark knocking before it started missing? higher cylinder temps and lean condition are probably from the stupid plenum.

I expect it was Penum, as I found the issue after a PING attack. The old "pushed out gasket" scenerio....
