My 4.6 was non PI, and I could tell a difference between it and a later model PI that I drove. That said, my little 4.6 was a pretty strong little car - fun to drive. I like the 5.0's through too because the after market for them is ridiculous - so many performance parts. They are pretty easy to mod too. I personally like that 5.0 body style (fox body) better then the '94-'98 modular 4.6 Stangs (and I like the 94-98 better then the '99+) Ya the older 5.0's had lower HP ratings, but there is a ton you can do to them to make power, so don't let those low factory numbers necessarily turn you away. Problem with 5.0 mustangs these days is finding one with lower miles that also hasn't already been abused. They are out there, but I think harder to find.

So ya I agree, if you plan to go with the modular 4.6 only, and you want performace, get the PI from a later year if you like that body style. If I where going with that body style, i'd save up and get an '03-'04 SVT Cobra. They are an unbeleivable car. Their nickname is Terminator. It came factory with an Eaton supercharger. Ford advertised them at something like 390hp, but that was later proven to be a deliberate underrating. A bone stock one was closer to 420 or 430hp if i recall correctly. Then you add a few simple modifications from there, and your looking at 450-460hp car.

By the way, if you really like the '94-'98 body style, there was a small run of '94's (and maybe '95's) that came with the 5.0 instead of the 4.6. I knew a guy that had one, and it was way faster then my '98 4.6. Just another option to look for.

94-95 should all have the 5.0. The 4.6 didn't come out in stangs till the 96 model year.

You'd have to do a lot of De-Uglifying to that truck.
