yeah i put the shroud back on i thought about cutting it out just enough to keep the coolant and washer fluid containers on it or i could pick up a diesel shroud thats thinner.

 

I have a single cheap 16" fan mounted directly to the center of the radiator. I have the shroud cut back to only hold the containers on either side. With half the radiator and the entire trans cooler blocked off I can barely get the motor to operating temp (210F) and the tranny rarely breaks 115F in the pan.

 

Uh, 210 degrees is not operating temperature for these engines, 195 is. 210 is the operating temperature (or there-abouts) for some of the newer Chrysler engines, but not ours.

If you are going to do it, go all out...


Dual 16 inch fans on an aluminum shroud, each 16 incher puts out 3000 CFM. Most cheaper fans put out half that or less, you have to be careful, especially with summer coming up.

Just under $200 for the aluminum shroud + shipping from Totally Cool Performance. They sell full kits or just the aluminum shrouds. The fans in their kits were only about 2000 CFM per fan, so I decided to do my own thing with them. My fans are from FF Dynamics, their FFD165 model (the 16 stands for 16 inch size). Just a tad above 10A draw on startup per fan, and 3000CFM per fan is fantastic. They are listed at $160, I got them when they were on sale for $105 each.

I have my "old" (less than 1 year old) Flex-A-Lite Black Magic 180 Extreme for sale if anyone wants it. Goes for about $250 or more brand new. I no longer have the controller for it (you'd have to spend $30-$40 at O'Reillys or another auto parts store for one), but I still have the metal brackets and bolts that it came with originally. Even got the original box still. Entertaining any serious offers (PM me, do not post offers here please).

 

Getting rid of the stock shroud was one of the reasons I switched to the efan. The Mark VIIII fan comes with its own shroud and that gives me a ton of room under the hood. I purchased 2 overflow bottles at Advance auto (about $12 each) to use for my radiator overflow and windshield washer bottles. This allowed me to mount them in different locations (I will post pictures later). I used the Flex a lite 31165 controller with the single speed Mark VIII fan. This fan puts out a little more than the two speed but does require a varible speed controller. I read it puts out around 5000 cfm.

 

That aluminum fan shroud is one sexy setup. How thick is the aluminum? I'm wondering if its worth an attempt at fabricating it or even something similar.

 

My fan puts out 1560cfm. I have two for a total of 3120cfm. I haven't had this in the summer is that enough . I don't use my ac if that matters

 

ive seen that shroud on ebay before, the whole kit runs about $400
