Little update on this

Saturday I was able to get the chief to pull the tower out and set it up so I could get up into the motor box (big square box). Holy **** and I do mean that literally. The thing is full of pigeon crap. There is a couple eggs in there and some small birds that were running around in there that were with a pigeon. Not sure if they are "baby" pigeons or not. You can see the one in the pic. It was all but sitting on my foot. It's gonna need a date with a power washer when it comes down. It's basically ready to come down off the poll whenever my friend with the crane can come by

Haven't updated this in a long time. I was able to get a buddy of mine who's family owns a towing business to come up and get the big sucker down.

I got it back on like July 24th. Here is a few pics of the removal

This kinda gives you an idea on how big this thing is. This is just the projector horn

The blower motor is a 7.5hp 3 phase so that's gonna require a phase converter or another motor. I'm leaning towards a phase converter in case I ever get another siren. The collecting bug has bit me already.

After the big earthquake today I decided to do the first full length cycle. I can only get Alert to work so far so here is the vid of that

Me too. Also at not much cost so far. I've spent $53 for new brushes that's including shipping, $18 on new bearings which it was a lot of 10 and I needed 2, and $20 for getting the chopper motor armature gone over and cleaned up. The rest of the money I've spent was just a sheet of plywood to hang the RCM cabinets and wire to rewire them together cause the stuff that was there wasn't long enough.

The fire company always said it would "cost too much to fix". This is why I'm determined to prove them wrong. They just had some idiot working on it that overcharged them

i understand but if you think about how much you would have had to spend to take it down had you not know someone that had a crane it could get expensive. having a licensed electrician to disconnect it. then get someone to rebuild it and hook it back up and put it back in place. it all adds unless you can get them to donate there time for historical sake.

Yeah but they wouldn't have had to have it removed to work on it. They could have just used the tower and pulled the chopper motor out and had it gone over.

It would have been awesome. We actually were put under a tornado warning.
Unfortunately I tore it apart Friday to try and get the other signals to work. Let me tell ya I was pissed. I would have cranked that sucker up if it was together.

I added another siren to my collection. It's an International Business Machines. Here's a short video of it.

Update!!!

I was finally able to get everything working on it this week. I also got a phase converter to run the blower motor. I haven't tried putting a load on it hooking the supercharger up yet. Hopefully I can get the standpipe off the frame and paint it and get the blower and motor mounted and try that out. Had to spend 2.50 on a switch for the timer.

My latest video. Kinda boring but it shows everything working
