Default Caant get my front axle shaft back in. Help!

I replaced the u-joint on my 2001 ram 1500 4x4 front passenger side and now when i go to slide in my shaft into the axle tube it goes in then it goes up andthrough the seal then stops. i can push it forward but when i release the tention it backs out like there is a spring behing it. im sure there is no spring but what could this be? somebody told me air pocket??? but even when I push it forward it still doesnt seem like it goes in far enough to bolt it all up. HELP plz thnx

Pull the cad housing off, and have a look at what's going on. Might want to check the condition of the axle seal on that side while it is easily accessible too....
