Thankfully I have never had any severe injuries working on any of our cars or bikes.

Sliced my thumb knuckle down to the tendon (stitches only, no tendon damage luckily) putting a body lif on an old truck I used to have. Finished the lift then went home, cleaned up and went to hospital for stitches.

Replacing a u joint on my moms jeep liberty today I was using an impact socket and a 32oz ball peen hammer, instead of a ball joint press...

Yep....... smashed my thumb, broke the tip of my thumb, and got 9 stitches.

Hurt like a ****. Happened around 1130 this morning, still bleeding a bit as of 820 tonight.

Still numb from the novacaine. No pain killers other than tylenol, or ibuprofen.

^Damnit man... Hope she heals fast.

Worst things I ever done (sorry no pics...):

Grabbed a piece of bright red molten metal (not on purpose), burned my skin white... THAT hurts. I can still find the spot today - though no scar for whatever reason. Couple weeks later burned myself on a dark red welding rod - that hurt worse for whatever reason and it wasn't as hot. Little bit of honey on it and it healed fast.

And messed my back up bad when I got myself pinned between the front seats and the dash. I was trying to install the trailer brake controller, was on my belly on the seats, and slipped down in a BAD position. Both my cell phone and two-way radio were out of reach so I had to wrench myself out of it. To this day my back is still messed up.

time to invest in a u-joint press.

I'm sure it is cheaper than your medical bill is going to be....

I have a ball joint/u joint press. I just liked using the socket and hammer better, well, not anymore haha.

The numbness around the wound is starting to turn to pain but past my knuckle is still numb from all the novacaine.

Oh, and I have medicaid so no med bills for me!

Though I probly shouldn't be happy that I have medicaid, but its better than nothing!

Certainly better than nothing. And I certainly don't hold it against you.

I usually prop the caps on a couple boards, and drive the shaft down with a BFH, so the cap on top will pop out. Then, just roll it over, and drive out the other side. Works good, and is a LOT less dangerous for the fingers.

I bet more than yeouch. I'd say partial loss of feeling for several years until the nerves repair themselves. My first Dodge was a 66 D-100 and I was having trouble getting the old oil filter off. I drove a screw driver through it and began twisting (it started turning), but my hand slipped due to dirty oil all over me and I got 12 stitches and some nerve damage that eventually healed. My Dad was more like others on here and hammers loved his thumbs. K.
