Thumbs down belt tensioner

What is normal pulley movement when 5.9 LTR is idling. My truck is making a noise that sounds like it is coming from belt area when driving at low speeds. When I look under hood the belt tensioner pulley seems to be moving over 1/2 inch when idling. The belt shows no signs of cracking .Have you noticed how much your tensioner moves on your 2001 Ram 1500 thanks dazieff

When my tensioner was worn out it moved back and forth about a half inch, and chirped. I replaced the belt and tensioner, now the tensioner doesn't move and of course it doesn't chirp, either.

If you replace it do NOT put the Dulalast crap on from Autozone. Mine went out so got one from there (no choice at the time). After 5-6 months later it needs changed again.

It's best to avoid buying any hard parts at Autozone. Common expendables like motor oil, spark plugs, etc. from there are the same as they are from anywhere else, but their repair parts are designed to be cheap rather than good.

Thats how I look at it also, just at the time it was my only option.

I've never had any problems buying parts from Autozone, but I buy the higher end parts. I am running AZ water pumps on 4 vehciles now, and two of them have about 35,000 miles on them since being installed.

Unfortinately, I have an AZ water pump on my truck. Put it on when I did plenum and nobody else had one in stock. So far, so good though.
