Snow Plow thoughts again.......
So I'm looking to hopefully double my business this year and I'm knee deep so far for the lawn season. But know I'm trying to get my ducks in a row for snow plowing Ill worry about prices when the time comes but I need help deciding if I can push or handle the plow
Options
Snowdogg: 7.6 V plow weight lil over 700 LBS
8 Straight 765 LBS or 8.5 Straight 785LBS
Western: HTS 7.5 Straight 412LBS
Boss: Power V 7.6 weight 700LBS or 8.2 is 770LBS
Power V XT 8.2 785 LBS
Super duty Straight 7.6, 8, 8.6 weight from 680 to 720
Now for the boss V plows I can stick wings on and widen another 22in.
But what is considered to big or over doing it for my truck? I just need a push in a direction.
Sorry for blabbing....

i have a brand new 2012 fisher 8' hd straight blade on my 1500. handles it great. i did install a set of diesel coil spings. truck drops 3/4" plow weighs 717lbs. your truck wi.l do just fine with a plow. mine does better than most 3/4 tonners around here.
I have the SnowDogg MD75. As stated, weighs 700 lbs. Truck handles it with no problems at all. I installed a 2" level for two reasons: 1) to level the truck, 2) to give a little more clearance and travel when the plow is on.
Now, the plow is just over 1 year old (bought 9/2010). I have had problems with it.
1) Was with the install there was loose bolts.
2) Blew the fuse at 55mph and lost all lights.
3) Trip springs are weak at best.
4) The plastic motor cover broke at the one mount.
5) The cylinders want to stick after sitting for awhile.
6) Soleniod for plow operation stuck.
All these but three were fixed by the installer at no cost to me.
1) Thightened bolts.
2) TSB for 15 amp fuse. The 10a blew when I hit the brights.
3) I added two more trip springs myself. Now total of 4.
4) drilled two holes, added nut-serts/screws.
5) Still working on this.
6) Replaced under warrenty.
IMHO, if you can handle some BS at fist, the SnowDogg's might be worth it. If I had it to do over again, I would not get one. Too much BS for me.

i prefer fisher, as they are made about 2 hours away from me.... my next would be a western, then a blizzard. as they are ALL made by fisher in Rockland, ME.
boss plows are junk, simple as that! fisher has a video on there website to prove just that!
fisher/western plows have the highest lifting capabilities out of ANY plow manufacturer. again fisher proves this in their video. my new plow will completely block one headlight when lifted depending which direction its angled. AMAZING for stacking.
fisher is also coming out with the multiplex wiring found on the xls, xtreme v and ht series plows, for the straight blade this year. this means that you can hook up to ANY plow whether its an xls, xtreme v, ht, or straight blade without any changes to the wiring, or controller. this is going to be a HUGE benefit for commercial plowing businesses, because they can own multiple plows and use the same truck for every plow based on their needs for what driveway they may be doing, or if they want to interchange plows on different trucks, or what not.
anyway.... here is the video i was talking about.
as you can tell im hugely into fishers, and would take a fisher plow over any other plow anyday!
oh.... and i do plan on getting a trans temp gauge sometime soon. this winter has proved to be sh!tty, aso i havent really used my plow.

i was thinking along the same lines. i figure anyone that has bought a plow this year has lost a fair bit of money and kicking themselves in the @$$. i was thinking about making one for my truck but it was not even worth my time this year. maybe a dozen snow falls that required plowing if they where lucky.
