How to hook up a vacuum guage?
Towards the bow? Lol but I got it hooked up and I'm reading 16 at idle. Should I run around my engine with some carb cleaner or water or just assume the low vacuum is from a 143,000 miles and a $15 guage
I'd want to verify with a more betterer gauge before working on the thing, anyway.
Really? I'm accustomed to seeing 17-20" out of engines like these at sea level, and get a very solid, consistent 13" on my 5.9l here at 6300'. Hmm. Color me puzzlecated.
That may well be true, but Denver's a good long way from here.
Just for giggles I went out and checked again to make sure I wasn't hallucinating on Saturday when I saw 13" with the old beast at normal operating temperature. Right after cold start (hasn't been moved since before sunrise) and a few seconds before going closed loop I saw a needle-width over 12":

It's a mite fuzzy but neither the camera nor the operator were under the influence of wobbly pops.
