Any one here ever made their stock bed dump? Any good threads here or somewhere else about it? Any links to plans?

 

Stealth Dump Beds.

 

I could of used one of those the other day when I had a full bed full of river rock! I had to do it the old way, with a shovel and a bunch of orange 5 gallon home depo buckets!

That was fun, let me tell you what!

 

I checked into the Stealth dump bed a few years ago.Nice piece of engineering.
Turns out they are custom made by the fella and he did not have one for a LB Dodge and had no idea if/when he would get around to making one.
At more than 3K I went with a much cheaper,$1200 solution.The bad part which has prevented my installation to this point,is the requirement to remove the bumper and to rely on a 1/2" bolt to hinge the bed.
I've figured out several ways to get the bed to lift and tilt up and over the bumper but there is still the filler neck that either needs to be shortened & rotated or made to be free standing/not anchored to the bed.
And of course the spare tire winch shaft as it passes through the rear of the bed (accessed from under the TG).This can be simply shortened and separated from the underbed supports.
Just haven't had the time to put it all together.
I've also considered running the hydraulic unit (single stage bleed down unit) on 24V instead of 12V to reduce the current load on the battery.

Man! Why doesn't he make that for a Dodge? That is one of the coolest things ever.

 

I would really like to rob some kind of scissor mechanism off something else along with the hydraulics. If I source the hydraulic parts myself I will not be using a electric or mechanical hydraulic pump. I would like to use a 12v air compressor and a air assist like what is on this jack http://www.harborfreight.com/automot...ack-94562.html I've used something like this on a shop crane and it's not fast but it's incredibly efficient. A 5 gal tank at 125 psi should have no problem lifting the bed a few times.

Water jetting is getting pretty inexpensive, some fancy hinges would be fun. I have a longbed 2nd gen, if there was enough interest I could sell a hinge/scissor kit with the goal keeping the price under 1k.

 

Here's one for a Dodge. I thought I remembered seeing these a long time ago. He is in Henrietta, TX (outside Wichita Falls). I looked at them there one time when I was thnking about doing this on a Chevy.

I know it's not exactly what you guys are talking about, but I've used a drop in dump bed with a chevy long bed before.

 

Not as stealthy but looks as functional.

 

...That eBay item from Texas is nearly exactly what I ended up with.Actually a pretty fair deal considering the hydraulic power unit itself would go for ~ $400-$500. I just won't go for the 'cheesy' bed hinge & the related issues.
The stealth dump is fantastic & priced accordingly IMO. Dodge prolly isn't a large enough market base-these days could be different though.
The only real trick to clear the bumper is to get the rear bed hinge to lift when raised for dumping.Only about 3-5" is needed (depending on your bumper/hitch configuration).A simple inverted swinging hinge joint will do.
For me,I want to disturb as little as possible underbed.Re-routing wires,a slight mod to the spare tire winch shaft and making the fuel filler neck freestanding is about as far as I want to go for mods.
As for the dump insert,you really lose load capy due to the weight of the insert itself.[But at least he got-it-done,that says something]
