I'm 50, and as I can't add any comfort for ya, I wanted to chime in and say Kudos for being a hard worker. I know it's tough on your generation, and yeah, many kids today want instant gratification, and not willing to put in the work for it. Good on you that you gone against the grain and proving your own value. Stand up and take ownership of that. There is always going to be judgement because of the generation, but all I can tell ya is stand your ground, keep doing what you are doing and prove the judging all wrong, and take satifaction in thumbing your nose at that. I have 3 grown sons, from 22-31, and they go through the same thing, and I raised all three of them to work hard, dont ecspect anything to be giving to ya. Work for what ya want, and it's all yours. They are still doing that, and I am proud of them. So, keep your chin up, do what ya do, and be proud of that..

I joined the Air Force when I was 17 years old, and have worked hard for mine since. I was an athlete, and played ball and worked since I was 14 years old. Today, kids feel they dont have time to work. I did it all, and I had time to spare, so I don't get that. But, I made my way on my own since I was 17, bought my own clothes and things since I was 14. Bought my own junk car when I was 15, and built it to drive with the gas I bought for it when I was 16. Kids today aren't willing to do that, so when I see one or a few that are willing to put in the time, my hats off to ya..

That girl will have a very hard time in life once she is thrown out into the real world. This is the problem (like was previously stated) with the world these days. If everyone expects everyone else to work so that they can't, no one will be left to work. To make it worse, if the government supports such atrocities, there is nothing that us honest hardworking folks can do about it. Every time i go out off base I see a certain demographic of people driving their pimped out taxi's with 30" rims on, that I know I paid for. The enormous amount of people on welfare in the area I live in is sickening. What's even more sickening is the fact that they make just as much as I do, working 50-80 hour weeks, every week.

Wow...kids today sound like kids when I was a kid...
...so I guess the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Nice to know nothing is going to get better!

End of "age rant!"

The best thing you can EVER do is vote for candidates who will curb welfare & unemployment payments. Remember that, and pass it on. If you say that will never change, it happened in the US in the 1990s and also in Wisconsin, which used to be a welfare destination.

That's what makes mad the most. Welfare. My two sons have to go to therapy three times a week, $140 an hour, $65,000 a year, per child, and the government is about to pass a law that is going to rid special needs childrens therapy assistance. My children will no longer receive speech, physical, and occupational therapy to help them succeed in life. The government thinks this is one of their very "smart" solutions for government spending. But yet we can sure as hell afford to pay for welfare! We can afford to feed and clothe the lazy bastards who have no intentions of doing anything productive with their lives. I can understand unemployment, because of certain jobs, like contract work, but rid of the pointless bull$hit like welfare. The government is more worried about other countries than our own. They will put us on a limb to pull another country out a hole they dug themselves! Because they know we will. Its rediculous. How the hell am I supposed to afford $65,000 when I don't even make $50K to live on?

But back in topic, the people my age these days take everything for granted. Im 22, married, two kids, own my pickup which I bought myself, and have financed my wifes car and our house. Most kids these days think their part time work day is so rediculously difficult. Then they go home to their parents and worry about nothing. The people of today and tomorrow are getting more and more worthless by the minute. And it doesn't look promising to get any better...

Very good point, it just can all seem hopeless sometimes... with the way the majority tends to vote and such... However I still think voting for a candidate who supports my views and values is important.

I can relate to some of that. I barely broke 20k last year, but living on base compensates for a good portion more. I am not married and have no kids yet, but I recently bought (financed, yuck ) the Lexus for a dependable daily while my truck is down, and for the Lady when we get married. Having just turned 20, most of my friends are working part time jobs, going to school (maybe) which is productive, but living under their parents financial support. I know my older brother is still living at home with mom, and he just turned 22, and is trying to scrounge up his pennies to go back to school to finish his degree. He recieved a little help for the first few years of college, but not much. My parents with 4 kids (the younger 2 are 15 and 12 now) just don't have 60k to throw at us for a CAR. I don't understand how people can be like that. Just comes across as clueless to me...

Show me a candidate that actually represents my views, both on the campaign trail, AND after being elected, and I will happily vote for him/her.

i'm 23 and i didn't even make 20k last year. i am lazy. i still live at my moms but i pay for all my stuff. i own my trucks free and clear and pay for all the parts i install on it and for the insurance and gas that it requires to drive. there are some advantages to living at home like being able to save some money that i could ether spend on my truck or invest in buying a house.

But you don't expect other people to hand you everything in life. That's the difference between you and the other kind of people. If your mom is able and wants to keep you around, good for y'all.

I personally would rather live in any of my vehicles than ever live with my mother again.

Haha, I actually like livin with my parents, which is a good thing cause I think I will be for a bit when I'm done with school. I was just talkin to my buddy who currently is in Afghanistan who was tellin me how his sister keeps askin for money, who is also on welfare. I told him I would rather live in a cardboard box then ask people for money, but i think the truck might be better now that you mention it
