Default couple transmission questions

i was wondering at approximately what speeds do the trans shift. i have been so use to my 81 shifting at about 40km/h(25mph) that the new 93 ram charger i bought feels a bit weird shifting at 50km/h(30mph). i have been thinking the tv cable might need to be adjusted but i am not sure how to tell if it need to be adjusted. the trans seems to shift up ok and kick down when you floor it. maybe i am just being picky. i always just thought the newer automatic where pretty much just a 727 with over drive so the shift point should not have moved much.

From what I have read on the tv cable adjustment procedure in the manual, if the tv cable is properly adjusted it should shift into 3rd between 25 and 30 mph with light throttle pressure. My 01 shifts right at 30 mph.

do you every feel the 1-2 shift? maybe all i am feeling is it shifting to 3rd. on my 81 the when it shifts you know. this thing i think almost sounds like it might only go from 1st-3rd-OD.

Actually the shifts in mine are fairly easy. The shift into 3rd is definitely more noticeable than the shift from 1st to 2nd. I can still tell it shifts but gotta be paying close attention if the throttle pressure is normal. If I get on it pretty good then the 1-2 shift is more noticeable but probably because it winds up a little more before shifting.

your right. i am starting to notice the shift a bit more. it just shift so smoothly i barely notice it. i guess the tv cable might be properly adjusted and i am just getting use to this thing. i guess the next thing to look into may be the plenum gasket. still haven't even looked down the throttle body yet.

+1 on checking the plenum. If you have a high miler and the timing chain is original you should think about doing the timing and water pump at the same time as the plenum fix.

only 206,000km. i would hate to have to move all the crap off the engine twice since it has a/c that actually works. lucky for me i think i have just a bit more room to be wrenching under this things hood than most of you 2nd gen guys.
