Default Fuel additive experiments plus Pulstars

Well, I stated in the tech section about doing the Pulstar plug test for my move starting may 11 (IN to NY towing/hauling 3K). I will be doing it with a new cap and rotor, as I did a tuneup before my last move from AR to IN in april 2011.

I s there anything else that you guys would like a test of? The onloy thing I ask is that it does not involve TAKING SOMETHING OFF during the trip (like switching spark plugs back, I am using old data for that).

Maybe after about 250 miles (PCM learn for the plug change), I can use some fuel additive or something. I already plan on using a water remover, but I can try new things every fill-up and report back.

List some things then I can make a poll and choose the two highest products. I figure that I can split the 750 mile trip into 3 parts:
1st 250mi: base data (using HEET to rid water)
2nd 250mi: use a product
3rd 250 mi: Use another product

However, I have a feeling that I will only be getting about 150-175 mi per 3/4 tank while towing. So it may be more legs. So, if I can get two legs out of the same product, it could be worthwhile.

Since my wife will be driving her YUKON I can run concurrent tests to see if there are any similarities to a bone stock vehicle (only thing she has is a spectre air filter).

I will plot the data using Fuel Consumed v Miles for both vehicles so the data can be seen visually. Basically to see if there is an UPWARD trend of fuel mileage. Although terrain and traffic conditions cannot be accounted in the graph, I think that each leg should be a good mix.

I never used any additives. But I got 12.5 MPG with 2000 in my bed and pulling a trailer weighing 1100 (motorcycle and trailer). So a 3100lb total.

12.5 MPG is pretty darn good without OD from a trip from Indiana to NY.

BTW, Perkins is a great establishment. Good food there for a great price.

Wow, that is a good MPG for the trip.

a bit more info about the trip:
1. I seldom drove over 65mph
2. I was using the Hemifever 91 octane tune. Got some pinging up some hills, but when I started filling with 93 octane it went away. I have to mswitch over to the less aggressive timing tunes he sent me for when I am towing.
3. The truck had an oil change, and i cleaned the cloth filter prior to the trip. The filter was pretty darn clean before I cleaned it, but i did it anyway.

I am also running a MSD box and coil, and I have 4 hole injectors. So that may help accentuate the perks of the pulstar plugs.

Performance Gains:
No dyno sheet, but the acceleration was a lot smoother and there was better power through 4500RPM.
I noticed a lot more kick in the lower RPMs and the truck held speed better going uphill.

I cannot recommend the pulstar plugs to anyone without the same ignition and fuel injector mods as me because I am sure that they play a part in the economy as well. Like I have said before, when you have done all you can with bolt-ons and other "easy" mods, and you are running out of things you can do for under 100 bucks, THEN they are worth it. I would not recommend for a stock truck...only because you can use the 100 bucks towards something better.

Overall, it seemed like I didn't need to push the gas pedal down as far to get the power I needed without the plugs.
