hi everybody, this is my first post on the site. i'm looking at getting a 2000 ram 1500 318 auto. but according to the guy i'm getting it from he said reverse went in it, it worked great when he parked it 6 months ago and drove it like 3 times this month and reverse is no longer working, i'm wondering if this can be an easy fix or do it myself , or take it to a shop...maybe just swap a 5 speed in it if i can any input would be great

Might be as simple as a band anchor fell out. (drop the pan, put it back in, readjust the band, yer done.)

May also be a major failure, and require a rebuild.......

Best bet would be to drop the pan, and have a look.

Several folks have done the auto/manual conversion.... having a complete parts donor truck makes life a lot easier.......

 

thanks for the input, and yea a parts donor truck would be great but they are kinda hard to find in a 5 speed
