Default Installing trans temp gauge.

So i bought this gauge today at Oriellys. Its a Equus water temp gauge that im going to use to monitor my trans temps. I have already decided to order a cooler line manifold from deiselmanor.com but for now I am going to put the sensor in a test port, i guess test port 3. (does anyone have a picture or a descriptive location for me?) I am still trying to decide on where to put the gauge. On top of the dash or in front of where my cig lighter should be.

I think i like it on top of the dash myself. What do yall think? also the instructions for it says that the sensor needs to be grounded to the chassis and that this is normally done by not putting thread sealant on the threads and it grounding itself by being installed in a metal component i suppose. So how does this work with it being installed in the tranny line? or does it really not need the ground?

run it in test port 4 actually... its the best one... and first location for gauge itself is best IMO. As for the ground the tranny line will be a ground.

It should range around 140 when warmed up...and stay pretty close to there.

it seems to stay around 160 and under.......i may replace the gauge at a later point to a digital cause its hard to see a accurate reading with the needle staying in the low range especially without my glasses on.

If you look at any analog type gauge, it is most accurate at the middle of the range. In this case, your normal operating temp is to the left by quiet a bit.

Mine runs around 140 on the highway and stays pretty constant. When i have to go threough speed trap towns, it runs up to the 160 to 170 range, but then drops when back to highway speed. But I run through radiator and external cooler. Main thing is to keep it well under 200.
