Default Thinking about adding an overhead console

The past couple weeks I've been thinking about installing an overhead console in my truck. Since my truck didn't come with one, I'm assuming I'll have to run a whole new wiring harness for it, and buy the mounting brackets as well, since my truck probably doesn't have them installed. I've never done anything like this before, and don't have a clue where to start, so it ought to be interesting, to say the least.

This is the console I'm wanting to purchase.

But I'm not sure what all I would have to do to get the Temp, Compass, and the rest of the information that provides to work, or if I could even get it to work at all.

The other option I'm looking at is this.

I'm hoping if I got this one, it will be as simple as plug and play, but I don't know.

Buying the console from Ebay will be a last resort. I'm hoping I can find one for a decent price from someone parting out their truck on Craigslist, maybe that way I can get all the wiring required for it as well, and it might give me an idea on how to set it up.

Has anyone installed an Overhead Console, on a truck that didn't originally come with one? If so, could you post the steps to installation, and how hard of a project is it?

You don't have one at all? If you dont have power windows/locks either, chances are good you won't have the harnesses necessary for the console either. There is the one that runs up to the roof there, and another under the hood, for one (or more) of the sensors. You will also need the High-Line central timer module....... find a donor truck, strip what you need from it, buying the parts piecemeal won't be cheap.

Nope, truck has crank-em ****-em windows, and manual locks as well. My truck was as basic as you could get, it has the vinyl flooring and even came factory w/o AC.

You need to find a truck that has what you want, and take it all then..... I would guess none of the harnesses, or the correct CTM will be there.

Yep. On yours, I doubt you will find anything up there, but, it probably wouldn't hurt to have a look....

Depending on what you wnat in the console, wiring shouldn't be a big issue for basic things...like map lights. Run wiring up A Pillar, connect to constant 12v and a good ground. It is the other stuff that will be problematic without the harness.
