I don't know why mine is so much heavier-probably the bedliner, tools and my butt weight runs it up higher.

OK, I just remembered I put a hoist in the bed several months ago. The shipping weight on it was 225#, so the numbers add up. But the state would want the manufacturers curb weight, which is about 700# less.

And there is a tag on the door frame that gives this info....I believe.....maybe its the gross vehicle weight....

with myself, tool box, a couple of hundred pounds of stuff, and full tank of gas, my short bed regular cab is 5400

You should be under 5500#'s with a regular cab.

Gvwr is the max the truck can weigh including payload, passengers, etc; not close to what it weighs. My 2wd qc with tool box and other stuff normally in it and 1/2 tank of fuel is right around 5200 lbs. Gvwr is the same at 6400.
