Cut the pipe shortly behind the cat, use something like a pry bar to break stuff up, start the truck to blow it out. (you can collect it if ya like..... not really something you want laying around the yard/driveway....)
i used a piece of aluminum pipe i had laying around from my dads old cb antenna. didnt have to cut the pipe. i just wedged the pipe in the exhaust and went to town. took about 5-10 minutes, and i was done. dont forget to remove BOTH o2 sensors, dont want to damage them.
Ok, I gotta ask, what is the purpose of gutting the cat?
Given our plenum issues..... the cats tend to get clogged, robbing the engine of power. They can get so bad, that the truck simply won't run at all. Some folks, after doing the plenum, will gut the cat till they can replace it, or, INSTEAD of replacing it. Just depends on emissions laws in that neck of the woods.
