Default changing oil

Before I did my oil today it says its full on dip stick , but when I put in the new oil and put in old in the 5 quart jug it only filled up half way ! Where is the other oil ? Came up 2 1/2 qrts short .

This is not the first time I always come up short of not filling it up , but this was the worst !

Mine does the same, and I know there's some still in the filter but not enough to make the difference. I don't know what happens to the rest.

If the pan was changed for a higher capacity pan, it would take more to fill. Mine takes 5 1/2 qts.

Can you pour the used oil into the jug and see how much it fills?
