I had a '79 Chevy 1/2 ton 2wd that had a bad u joint. Started shaking real bad and a few seconds later heard and felt a big boom. At the same time the rpm skyrocketed. Pulled off the road and the front half of the driveshaft was hanging from the trans and the rear half was about 1/4 mile behind me.
Good thing you caught it before something worse happened.

When my truck was still on the road mine were begging me to replace them.. I reached in one day and grabbed ahold of the drivers side and my hand came out with a u-joint. It was at that point i very carefully put it back into place and stepped away from the truck....
Nevermind everybody. I guess the mechanic was wrong): Was coming home earlier and my whole passenger side wheel almost completely detached from the truck...
Mechanic said it was the actuator that was causing the problems and making everything shake and rattle so he changed it yesterday and it didnt do a thing):
