If you need to work on a phone jack, make sure you disconnect the lines in the box outside first. It's almost guaranteed that a telemarketer or a bill collector will call right when you touch the contacts in the jack. That mess feels like getting hit with a mouse trap.
when you are removing bats from a louvered house vent and you are up on a ladder about 20 feet up, here are several tips:
1. do not turn on the floodlights. this attracts bugs which attracts more bats and its unnerving as they as zipping about you.
2. do not put the ladder directly under the louver. when you spray them with windex or 409 or whatever chemical you choose to blast them with, they will sort of fall out of the louver in a disoriented state. its unnerving when they land on your head, chest, and arm and it takes a lot of concentration to not fall off the ladder.
3. after removal of the bats, staple screen wire over or around the outside of the louver to keep them out. this works well.

When lighting charcoal, a propane torch works wonders.
A charcoal chimney with some of those fire starter cubes that look like marshmallows works great too but it takes longer than the torch.
A pump for an air mattress works good to speed up the process in the charcoal chimney once the bottom coals are lit.
I don't care to wait for coal to light when I'm ready to cook.

a leaf blower will speed up the charcoal burning process. also will speed up a good brush fire.
when starting a brush fire using diesel fuel, and the fuel is old and the brush is wet and its just not burning good - you might be tempted to add a splash of gas to the diesel fuel to warm it up a bit. don't do it...... it works good the first time you do it, but after several months you will forget that you added gas, and you will forget to shake it up. you will then pour out some of what you think is diesel fuel only to discover that its the separated, lighter, more highly volatile gasoline that you pour out on your next brush pile. the results are very uhm, exciting.
do NOT start a charcoal fire with diesel fuel. your hamburgers will taste exactly like diesel fuel.
