46RE Tranny Trouble
Hello Everyone!
Here's my problem: I was heading down the NYS Thruway when the bottom tranny coolant line (the return line, I think) came undone and spewed fluid all over I-90. I was able to re-attach the line, but had to drive a ways to get a fluid refill. After that, I have no O/D and the shifting of the remaining gears are really clunky. Planning on replacing the engine very soon, so I have the opportunity to check the internals. What should I look for?

Usually, low fluid will mamke trans not shift at all before it casues too much damage. As Stewie mentioned, drop pan and see what is inside. See if fluid is burned (not too likely....but never know). Go ahead and change filter and refill (unless you find pieces in the pan). Check level in Neutral with tranny wamed up good. Let us know what you discover.

Could drop the pan and see what you find, clean or replace the solenoids and filter while you're there.
