Default Dip stick hard to push in tube

1996 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9L My oil dip stick just is very hard to get all the way in. Part number seems correct, 53020616. I marked on the dip stick the length of the dip stick tube. It goes in that far just fine and then goes in another 5 inches past where the tube connect on engine. Then it is impossible to push on in. In fact I have to hold the flat part close to the tube, about 1 inch, and ram it in, pushing won't get it. then it goes the rest of the way easy. The dip stick looks fine, tube looks fine. Besides it gets through the tube anyway, so it must be in the pan? Once I slam it past that inch or so, it goes the rest of they way with no problem. Anyone ever had this happen??

If I didn't know any better, I'd swear you were discussing the foibles of your last encounter with a female.

See if a wrecking yard(or friend) has a 94-98(or 99 I can't recall) 318/360 and see if maybe someone replaced it with the wrong year's dipstick or even wrong vehicle's dipstick altogether. If your certain neither is the case, pull the oil pan and see if something is in there. Because if it was fine and now is sticking, something has changed to restrict the thing and I'd rather have a new gasket than something unknown in the pan.

VWandDodge, I was think the same thing as I wrote, was afraid no one would take it serious. Actually was chuckling a few times when posting, that is why I did a video, so you would know I was serious.

Good Idea on finding another dip stick for same engine. Can't think of what could happen in the pan, sounds nice and quite in there, maybe one of the doctor offices in town would loan me a fiber optics light to look in there?

I tore down a (poor running, admittedly) 95 Nissan that the dipstick started giving a problem pushing in. The end main bearing had slipped out and was hanging down where the dipstick went in and the dipstick was hanging up on the bearing. Strangely, there was no noise. I think the guy had driven it that way for a while. He burned up a perfectly good 2.4L head in the process though. No oil pressure was making it up there. The things you see when you're a line tech. Damn that was a long time ago.

I still think that entire post is a euphemism for what when down with you and a lady friend this past weekend.

You don't gotta lie to kick it around here.

How long is the stick? End to end. And does it read correctly after putting in 5 gt's ?

Yes I changed oil and filter, bought 5qt jug Penn high mileage and it is at full mark.

Dip stick is 35 1/2 inches to beginning of cap that goes over tube and then another 1/2 inch as cap goes over tube. So it goes in 36 inches. It goes in 21 1/2 inches until it hit the sticking point. So that means after I get it through the tough part it goes on in another 14 1/2 inches.

I measured the visible part of tube and that is 15 1/2.

I am not sure it was ever fine, I bought it on Oct 2 and changed the oil on Oct 3 and it was bad then. Actually, it was bad when I checked it out on Oct 2 before buying and that is when young man seemed perplexed and said it never did that before. I just wanted to look at oil before buying. At that time I figured wrong stick, but the part number looks correct? The guy I bought it from didn't changed his oil, but took it in town.

Called Dodge and they said I had right part number.

i think the dipstick tube unbolts from the block and lifts out. clean the area where it inserts into the block so you don't drop any trash down in there. remove it and see where/how its binding.
