Default Winter project

Well last fall I bought a junkyard motor, put all new topend seals on it (headgaskets, intake, etc.), a double roller timing chain, and recently an M1 intake manifold with a 52mm throttle body. The original motor we had diagnosed with bad piston rings because it was burning an incredible amount of oil. I just didn't feel like putting new rings on it, so that was my option. The junkyard motor had decent compression.

Now my nightmare has reoccurred. My current motor has bad rings and I'm fed up with it. I'm going to the junkyard again this month and am going to get the block cleaned and bored out. I would love to do a 408 stroker, but don't have the thousands to drop into it. Instead I will be boring it out .030, getting new pistons, getting some 2.02 Clearwater heads, and a mild cam.

I have it rounded to around 1500 to 2000 dollars for the whole project. My questions to you fellas are:

--What style/brand/type of pistons should I get? The truck is mostly a street truck, but I take 3-4 trips to the truck playground every year along with numerous rescue calls of friends getting stuck, if that helps.

--I'm looking at a little higher compression, somewhere in the high 9's or low 10's. What would you recommend as far as head gaskets and head work?

--For the cam, I'd probably want something for the whole RPM range, but I would love to have an aggressive, lopey sound.

If you can't see my sig on mobile or for some other reason, I do have an SCT tuner and 4.56 gears. Thanks guys!

EDIT: Trying to get a grocery list per say...

Never heard of a cam that is effective throughout the entire range.....

Ok then lets go for 1800 and up, I'm gonna look for some upper RPMS if I'm in mud, and with the gears my lower end shouldn't suffer as bad

Well I got enough money now to get the junkyard motor, get it machined and get the pistons. Looks like the heads won't be until early spring. Anyone have ideas? I'm not too worried about the cam, I can figure out what I want when the time comes to actually buy it.

So I decided on some basic KB flat top pistons, the 2.02 Clearwater heads, and possibly this cam...

Any opinions?
