Default 2000 dodge ram 1500 tail lights/running lights not working

hey im new to this thread but I've got a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 w/ a 5.9L 360. I've had the truck for a while and my tail lights, running lights, and dash lights have stopped working. I pulled the light switch out of the dash and found that 2 wires had all the insulation melted off for about 5 inches and thought that was the problem.

I pulled them apart and wrapped them both in electrical tape and replaced the fuse. It's still blowing the fuse everytime i turn on the switch. I've traced the wires but can't seem to find the problem. Anybody got any advice??
