I don't want a 4-door truck. Too large a cab and too small a cargo box. Finding a decent Ford or Mazda seems to be a challenge right now, and like I stated the Nissans are priced into the stratosphere. I'm widening my search to the Dakota, but I don't want a V8 in it.

Daks are nice, but if you don't have a V8, there will be no power and even less fuel economy, since the V6's are crap regardless of generation.

I'm sure jkeaton will chime in.

All hail thrush turbo!! Wait, wrong thread....

VW, stick with a ranger or S-10/S-15. Dont waste your time with a v6 Dakota.

4spd or 5spd 2.5 or 4.3 S10. great little trucks. very reliable, shift like a sports car, easy to drive, cheap to work on if it needs any work.

The Chevy 2.5 is pretty much gutless, and like a typical Chevy the interior rattles and falls apart. S10s were made on the super cheap.

I'm rethinking getting a Dakota with a V8. That might be easier than finding a Ranger; however, I do NOT want one with four full doors.

that 2.5 ain't bad...its not a hot rod, but its got as much torque as the v6's. 2.5 is a pretty big 4 cylinder. my S10 has the 2.5 and it scoots along pretty good...its no race truck, but it sure as hell wont loose to a geo metro lol.

you also gotta realize a 2.5 S10 weighs less than your average compact to mid size car... they weigh in under 3k lbs...doesn't take much to get them moving...as for gutless....I can do posi burnouts with my stock 2.5...the 2.5 is a strong motor with ridiculous bottom end torque for a gasser.

are you trying to get a hot rod, or trying to get a backup truck?

I can find at least 6 s10s with V8 conversions on CL if you want a 10-12 second truck... seen a few with 600+hp 383 strokers....

oh yes interiors...the headliners tend to fall down..remove that and the interior is fine...mine is an 87 and doesn't rattle. very solid. and old enough to be emissions exempt!! woot! shes gettin either a 4BT or a 383 stroker with a t56 6-spd before I'm done with her
